SUMMARY: gdb under 5.1a

Well, the short answer is still "it does not work".

Dave Love suggested that I try the precompiled version of gdb that is
part of the Cygnus tools which come with Tru64 UNIX 5.1a. I found the
software on the Linux Portability Tools binaries CD. You have to install
the entire Cygnus environment - which I did; all of the Cygnus GNU tools
then seem to work except gdb.

Several other people suggested complaining to the gdb developers. But
two people said that the relationship between Compaq and the GNU gdb
developement team is bad, and that it is unlikely that this product is
ever going to get fixed.

This is very bad news and is hastening our move away from Tru64 UNIX.

Thanks, as usual, for all of your good help.
