Admins, we knew the time would come and it has. We are in a position where
we must upgrade to accomodate a new version of software. This will be
the first upgrade I have done on a tru64 box. We do not have support
contracts for software. The box is an 800 alpha and is 5 years old.

I did call Compaq to inquire about media to do the upgrade. BTW, I do have
two other boxes running 4.0g, so I have media, if I can use it to do the
update install. Comapq would not answer any of my questions without me
first paying them $230 for an hour of support. Obviously I want to do this
legally and properly, but do I NEED Compaq's help? I'll plead ignorance
here as this is my first upgrade. Not many months ago I went through a
complete reinstall of the os as a result of a security breach, so I do
have some familiarity with the install proceedure. Any insight or
direction much appreciated as Compaq was not much help in providing me
info other than a phone number and the opportunity to spend money i don't
have in budget. (This upgrade issue was a complete surprise from one of
our software vendors. GGGrrrrrrr!) Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Mark
