can't open man page in 5.1A

Hi,

I just completed an upgrade from 4.0E to 5.1A PK1 (via 4.0G and 5.1).
Pretty smooth except for a few relatively minor errors including when I try
to open a man page:

$ man swapon
$ Reformatting page. Please wait...col: write error.
$ man: The program has ended abnormally.

Anybody have any idea what's causing this?
