Hi all,

Overall consensus is best summarized by Lucien Hercaud's reply:

Tru64 UNIX V5.x uses DVN 4 format AdvFS domains still backwards supports
the DVN 3 domains coming from the V4 of the OS.
You may want to go thru the save/restore method only if you want to get the
new and better features of DVN4 domains

BTW follow the link above for more detail

Thanks for the replies.
I'll go for the restore option.

Kind regards,
Alex

Subject: reinstall and access domains

Hi Admins,
On a machine (alphaserver ds20e) running tru64 v4.0g I have two disks: one
OS disk (root_domain, usr_domain) and a data disk (data_dom)
The server is going to run version 5.1a
Because there isn't any important data on the OS disk, I'd like to reinstall
the OS, using version 5.1a (so I won't be actually upgrading)
Is there any difference in AdvFS between tru64 4.0g and 5.1a? Otherwise, I
would be able to access w/o problems the data on the second disk, data_dom?
(After reinstalling 5.1a, creating the links in /etc/fdmns en mounting
data_dom)
Or is the only way to do this by newly creating the data_dom and restore
from backup?
Kind regards,
Alex
