Managers,
Yesterday I got called into fix a dead 2100.
DU4.0B
Oracle 7.3
2GB system disk
Raid 5 SWXCR data disk
No administrator for the system in the last 2 years.
No /,/usr,/var backup (or they don't know where it is).
No one knows what format the oracle backups were made in, or how complete they are, but they do make one every day.
No DU4.0B CDs (I have DU4.0D, so I'm going to try to upgrade to it.)
No Oracle CDs, no Oracle docs.
========
Anyway, the main disk died a partial death. fsck moved a couple hundred files into lost+found and deleted a lot more.
The /etc directory was cleared by fsck, so what is left is in lost+found.
The fstab file is gone. (I did recover the license database!!!)
I moved the old bootdisk and put in a new disk at dka0. I have installed DU4.0D on it. I only have the minimum set of software and kernel sets installed.
It seems to be fine and I can mount the old bootdisk, but I can't see the SWXCR disk yet.
(I have never worked with SWXCR, so it is likely something I am doing wrong.)
I can do a dd if=/dev/re0c of=/dev/null and the raid 5 set seems to work, but if I try 'disklabel -r re0', I get an error message about there not being a disklabel.
I did install a SWXCR kit that allowed me to do a parity check and the it shows the raid set has no parity errors, so I assume that it still has data on it.
The SWXCR kit came from the DU40.B install, so I hope it doesn't hurt anything.
I also tried to install the SWXCR mgt gui kit, but it complains that it needs the c++ shared libraries installed first. I don't think DU4.0D has a kit like that. I did install a c++ class shared library kit, but it did not help.
What do I do next???
Do I need to somehow tell the OS how the SWXCR disks are configured??
Are there some SWXCR related config files I could try to recover from the old disk??
