HSG80 MAX_READ/MAX_WRITE and AdvFS Wblks

(re-send)

- Oracle 8.0.6.3
- v5.1 PK5
- 3 node GS80 cluster
- AdvFS (no DIO enabled)

Has anyone tuned MAX_CACHE_READ or WRITE or MAX_CACHE_TIMER on an HSx, or tuned Rblks or Wblks on AvdFS file domains (showfdmn / chvol), or know their relationship?

What are the effects of setting MAX_READ_CACHED_TRANSFER_SIZE and MAX_WRITE_CACHED_TRANSFER_SIZE to something other than the default (32)? Why does sys_check suggest 256? Has anyone tuned this parameter? Also, where does tuning MAX_CACHE_TIMER come into play?

Here is how I see the flow of I/O:

Oracle ---> (UBC) --> AdfVS ---> UNIT cache ---> Storageset chunk
(256 blks)128k (256 blks)128k (256 blks)128k (256 blks)128k (256 blks)128k

Any other AdvFS or HSG80 tuning I should consider?

Thanks in advance.
