Thank you to everyone who responded. I had already had the NVRAM variable os_type set to UNIX and was booting from the SRM
Console. Kurt A. Ludwig supplied the missing piece to the puzzle when he said to set SRM_BOOT to ON. This was done as follows:
>>> edit nvram
# 10 set SRM_BOOT ON
# exit
>>>
I can now boot the Tru64 Unix 4.0g CD without it crashing. Thank you all again!

Hello,
I picked up a Digital Server 5000 from surplus and I've tried to install Tru64 Unix 4.0g on it without success. The system was designed to run Windows NT. I've been told by 2 or 3 people that there is an NVRAM variable that can be set that allows Tru64 Unix to run on it. Unfortunately none of them remembers what the variable name is. Can anyone tell me what the variable is that needs to be set or direct me someplace where I could find out. I really appreciate any help in this matter.
Thanks,
Mark
