Dear Experts,
You may also note that I am not able to ping the hostname of
the Master DNS from my "Win2000 Prof" client PC. For instance, if the
hostname of the Master is "mdns" and that of the slave is "sdns", with the
DNS Zone name "xyz".
In the above scenario, from my PC I can ping "mdns.xyz",
"sdns.xyz" and "sdns", BUT NOT "mdns". Wonder, if this information could
help.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Dear Gentlemen,
I am facing a problem when setting up DNS on our Alpha
servers. We have two servers running Tru64 v5.1 and have set
up one as
Master and the other as Slave. Both are on the same subnet
and the hostname
and IP address of both servers exists in the "/etc/hosts" on
both the
machines. Both can also ping each other.
However, when I try to telnet the Slave server using its IP
address from my "Win2000 Professional" client PC (Preferred
DNS server -
Slave DNS' IP address, Alternate DNS Server - Master DNS' IP
address), the
telnet screen hangs for a minute or two before displaying
the logon screen
(telnet to Master using IP address is ok).
You may note that I have followed the "Tru64 Network
Administration" manual when setting up both the DNS servers.
Can someone enlighten me on what has gone wrong for the
telnet utility (of Win2000 Prof.) to hang? Would appreciate
your suggestions
please.
