Dear Experts,
We have a DS20 m/c at our premises and another one across
the road in another building. The networks in both the buildings are
connected using PAV Infrared devices (100mbps). Both the DS20s run Tru64
v5.1. However, the one in our premises uses a "DEGPA (1000BaseT) Gigabit"
NIC whereas the other one uses a 10/100 Ethernet NIC.
Our problem has been that when we copy files (using ftp)
between these 2 m/cs (via the infrared), the transfer rate is only 250kbps
(from a gigabit network to a 100mbps network). However, if I transfer the
same files from the gigabit Tru64 m/c to a Win NT m/c (using a 100mbps
connection) in the other building, it is about 4times faster!
We also forced the DS20 and Win NT in the other building to
100mbps full duplex but with no change in results. On being advised to force
the gigabit m/c in our premises to 1000mbps instead of autonegotiation, we
tried the commands "set ewa0_mode ..." from the console and also "lan_config
-ialt0 -a0" and putting it in "/etc/inet.local", but the DEGPA card never
seemed to accept any of these and remained on autonegotiation.
Would appreciate any comments on this problem.
