Slow X console start

        I have a machine that takes 20-30 minutes to bring up the CDE screen
on the console.

        The login windows are fine, but the blue screen takes about 10-15
minutes and then the black one with the console log at the bottom goes
another 10-15. The mouse cursor is an hourglass and it responds OK. After
I get the CDE session up, everything is fine.

        Hardware is Alpha 2100, OS is 5.1a pk4.

        I don't see anything else abnormal. Performance is fine.

Any ideas?
