Bad system call during installupdate

I'm in the process (was, until recently, sigh) of upgrading a DS20 from
v4.0G to v5.1. First, I did the firmware upgrade to SRM v6.5-13, then
started the installupdate and this is where I'm at now..

        X Server successfully shutdown

        Removing Temporary update installation files...done.

/sbin/installupdate: 11028 Bad System Call - core dumped
/sbin/installupdate: 11028 Bad System Call - core dumped
/sbin/installupdate: 11028 Bad System Call - core dumped

        #

I get "Bad System Call" even doing an ls, cp, ps, etc. Some commands do
work, like w, uptime, cd.

I saw similar problems mentioned in the archives of others seeing the same
problem but no fixes were posted.

Any ideas on how to proceed. I am not able to view the update logs.
