Cluster Network Address

Hi, managers.

I have a cluster of two ES40, each running Tru64 rel 5.1A PK4.
They are connected by an Ethernet cross wire.
Each server also has its own external Ethernet connection.

Now, If I shut down one of the members, the other looses
its IP address on the external Ethernet. It is possible to
put its address back by means of ifconfig, though.

Any ideas why?
