simload tool to generate defined CPU load?

Dear Managers,

I have seen a tool on some platforms which was called simload_OSF1 .
This tool allowed to generate a defined CPU load (e.g. 75%).

Unfortunately I have only seen a binary of this.

Does anyone know if this tool's source is/was available somewhere, or whether an open-source alternative exists which can generate such a defined load ? I have looked at "stress" but it doesn't quite do the same (good tool though!)

Any pointers would be most appreciated.
