TDL 486DX2-66

A fairly normal PC built by TDL Computers, the trading name of Turtle Distribution Ltd which existed from 1991 to 1996. It was likely built in early-mid 1995 (date on the I/O card is February 1995, and the motherboard March 1995).

When fetched from storage in April 2024 this computer had no drives, RAM or PSU - just a motherboard, VGA and I/O cards, and cables. The motherboard, VGA and I/O cards all bear TDL stickers indicating that they're original to this machine. When the PSU was removed the power switch was left in place, so perhaps it had failed.

The case isn't in great condition. It had a fair bit of rust in one corner under the cover which I removed with a wire wheel, as well as a bit on the rear and on the inside of the cover. There is also damage to the top left corner of the front plastic though it's not too noticeable. A previous owner has labeled all the ports on the rear with twink.

Specifications

On the 29th of May 2024 a floppy drive, CD-ROM drive, PSU and RAM were installed. All other parts are original to this machine.

This machine currently has no allocated task so it lives in storage. It was pulled from storage in April 2024, and in late May 2024 it was dismantled, cleaned, drives installed, tested, and inventoried as COMP-0011.

Current Issues

This machine has the following issues waiting to be resolved:

• It needs a power cable for the seven segment display
• It needs a hard disk
• It needs batteries (a 3x AA holder is in place, prefer LiFeS2 chemistry)
• It needs a sound card
• It needs a network card
• CD-ROM drive might need a new belt or further lubrication of the tray eject mechanism
• Case parts cleaned of rust could perhaps do with painting.
