Dear Wizard:
In the March "Ask the Wizard" column, you answered a question
about Random Number Generation and you cited Knuth's "The Art of Computer
Programming, Vol. 2, Seminumerical Algorithms" as the definitive work.
I couldn't agree with you more; I've owned the three volumes for several
years now, and won't part with them. (I keep hoping he'll finish the series
some day --- he promised SEVEN volumes!) Anyway, I digress. You mentioned
that Knuth's book is "very old", "1969(!)". you need
to part with a few dollars and buy the 2nd edition. Also not exactly new,
it was published in 1981(!).
And where is the MIX compiler for OpenVMS?! ;)
Sorry, there does not appear to be a MIX compiler (assembler, really)
for OpenVMS. A shame, really....
There is one written in CDC 6600 assembly (COMPASS). Anybody have a
CDC 6600 emulator? :-)
