Questions:
Our college VAX/VMS system is based on a MicroVAX 3100.
It is hung on a campus-wide fiber backbone and uses UCX
to access a CISCO router/gateway. I administer a Linux
box attached to the backbone via a DEC ethernet repeater
so that I do not have to use UCX on the MicroVAX. Here's
the problem:
Whenever the power fails on the MicroVAX (which is fairly
common), it resets. If my Linux box is up, everything seems
to remain intact, but something has happened to the ethernet
connection. It is impossible to telnet into the Linux system
from either the gateway or UCX. But I can telnet FROM the
Linux system into the UCX, which seems to reset the port
on the ethernet repeater.
Is there a way to keep the DEC ethernet port open to an
existing connection if the backbone resets?
