Ask the Wizard Questions

Update: What do I need to update to V6.1

The Question is:

I have VAX/VMS V5.4-3 running on a VAXstation 3100 m38,
with 32 Mb on memory and 400 Mb on disk, the application
running on the Vaxstation left 40 Mb free on disk.
Now I have to upgrade it to OpenVMS V6.1; do I have to
upgrade the hardware?, is it required a special feature
for the VAXstation?, is it enough the new license?.

The Answer is:

You don't need to upgrade the hardware - the new license will be enough.
However, 40MB free disk space is not enough to do a VMS upgrade. If you
can free up another 25MB or so of disk space, that should be sufficient.

To go from V5.4-3 to V6.1, however, would require an intermediate upgrade
to V5.5 (possibly V5.5-2). If you don't have these kits available, you can
do a full "install", but that would require saving and restoring non-VMS
files and reinstalling layered products. Contact your local Digital sales
office for additional assistance.
