An elementary question I'm sure. We have had a Alpha unit for about 6
months, running PRAXVU. We have it networked, as well as using Digital
terminals, to PCs. We are using Kermit, with the PCs to connect with
the server. That's working great. However, we have an employee who is
at home ill. We wish to connect him, via a modem to the server. We
need to do it in a hurry. The office manager has not been able to get
the exact method and software to use to do this. Can you enlighten me
a little on this? We just got about 30 manuals from the company
yesterday, but we need to get this done soon.
This is elementary, but unanswerable without additional detail.
There is insufficient information here to answer -- we need to
know the type of serial line controllers (console or add-on
option) present, and the (I'm assuming) OpenVMS version.
This is often little more than connecting a modem up and issuing
a command such as:
SET TERMINAL/MODEM/AUTOBAUD[/other options] ttcu:
but the specified serial line device(s) must support modem
control. As for the wiring necessary for connecting the modem,
this depends on the modem and host connectors present.
The System Manager's Manuals are often a good start...
