Ask the Wizard Questions
Mail to foreign systems
The Question is:
If this isn't the proper forum, please try to point me in a different
direction.
We are using a Novell GroupWise email system connected to VMS MAIL via
MISSIVE (a message router from Wingra technologies) The message flow is
VMS MAIL to MISSIVE down to GLOBAL MHS on a Novell server to an MHS
gateway and then to GroupWise. The problem we are having is that if a
VMS MAIL user addresses a message to both VMS MAIL users and GroupWise
users, the GroupWise users see only GroupWise users in the TO: field
which makes complete replies impossible. Messages sent from GroupWise
to VMS MAIL don't have this problem - VMS MAIL users see all
recipients.
Wingra says that this is the fault of VMS MAIL in that VMS MAIL
recognizes the foreign mail protocol and only passes the GroupWise
adresses to MISSIVE. DEC support says "we don't know"
IS THIS A VMS MAIL PROBLEM AND IF SO, IS THERE A WORKAROUND?
The Answer is:
At this time we are not putting much development resources in VMS MAIL.
When I asked people in the know, I got a discouraging answer:
-> Based on what I know about the VMS MAIL protocol this is probably a
-> tough problem to solve, since passing the foreign usernames in a
-> usable way effectively requires an inverse translation of the names.
