What does BG stand for?

The Question is: 

UCX allocates device sockets using "BG" devices.  What
does "BG" stand for?

The Answer is: 

   I'm sorry, but this request was asked of the OpenVMS wizard, not of
   the UCX wizard, and the OpenVMS wizard is loathe to give away the
   spells and secret incantations of the UCX wizard.
