Ask the Wizard Questions
Order of security checks with ACLs
The Question is:
Is it possible to for VMS to get "confused" if I have an ACL
defined along with UIC protections? I have looked into the
manual and I conclude "no"- but I think I should ask the experts.
The reason I ask is that my sys admin. suggested that, somehow,
the VMS is getting confused because both are defined.
The Answer is:
No - the documentation is very clear on the order in which security checks
are made. The ACL is scanned first - if there are no matches in the ACL,
then the traditional protection mask is looked at. For more information,
refer to the OpenVMS Guide to System Security.
