[Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at 12:34 CST by Col. Jessep] [2 Comments]

Vote on the QuadV Forum for your favored player for the Commander Challenge!
"Starting sometime after Christmas this will be a Best of 5 match up once a month between the very best commanders. The Map will first be chosen by the Challenger and then continuing on by the loser of the last round. No Bug abuse is allowed, we all know them and you'll be doing it live in front of everyone watching.

For the first match up the 2nd highest voted person is deemed as the challenger. The top 2 voted people will be the first players to take part at an arranged date (preferably a Sunday).

Start date will be sometime after Christmas and will be arranged with the winning players. Poll closes Christmas Day!"
There will be also custom maps in the QuadV Commander Challenge. You will need to make an account on QuadV to watch Demans live, live, live feeds and the VoDs anyway, so go out there and vote. Oh, and say hi and thanks to Deman please!

Atari to Publish Demigod

[Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 21:52 CST by Pet0sh] [17 Comments]

Stardock and GPG have named Atari as Demigod's publisher for European, and likely Asian markets. The game is still slated for a worldwide release in February 2009, though there is currently no information on whether the releases will differ in any way.

Atari is known for owning the rights to Total Annihilation, and released copies of it under the name Infogrames.
For a list of games published by Atari, see here.

More QuadV?

[Friday, November 28, 2008 at 04:08 CST by Col. Jessep] [2 Comments]

Deman plans to resurrect "The Ultimate Commander" once ran by SupCom-Live.
So my plan is to revive this idea and only have the matches right here live on Quadv. I've been told by many players that the Ranking System is dead so telling who is the best is very much an unknown so I plan to put that right!

Running either each month or Bi-Weekly a new challenger will try and take the crown from the current champion with each challenger being voted upon by you the gamers. I shall chose who can be voted upon though and will offer up a list of 5 players under advice of the community top players.
You can read Deman's announcement here.

SupCom2

Square Enix, famous for dealing exclusively with Japanese developers, takes the first steps towards becoming a truly global publisher today, announcing a strategic partnership with Seattle-based Gas Powered Games.

The partnership also marks Square Enix's first foray into the real-time strategy market as GPG begins officially commences development on Supreme Commander 2, the sequel to their hit RTS game for the PC and Xbox 360.

"We see great opportunities in European and North American markets, both of which are expected to be maintaining sustainable growth over these coming years," said Yoichi Wada, president and representative director of Square Enix Co., Ltd. "Therefore, it is crucial we create alliances with proven developers such as Gas Powered Games in order to serve these significant markets better by providing products and services in tune with customer tastes."

Wada had previously voiced his concerns over the growth of the Western games industry, most recently at the Tokyo Game Show, where he proposed an alliance of Japanese devs and publishers. I suppose this is an example of the old 'If you can't beat 'em, join 'em' strategy.

Development Begins on Real-time Strategy Game SUPREME COMMANDER 2
London (12th November 2008) - Square Enix Ltd., the publisher of Square Enix® interactive entertainment products in Europe and other PAL territories (Square Enix), today announces that Square Enix, Inc., a U.S. sister company headquartered in Los Angeles, California, and development house Gas Powered Games Corp., a U.S. company headquartered in Redmond, Washington (Gas Powered Games) have formed a strategic partnership. With the commencement of this strategic partnership, development has begun on SUPREME COMMANDER 2, a sequel to the award-winning real-time strategy series.

This strategic partnership represents one of the first steps Square Enix Co., Ltd., a sister company of Square Enix headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, and its affiliates (collectively, Square Enix Group) are taking towards their goal of increasing western development efforts aimed for the global markets. Square Enix Group has previously worked exclusively with Japanese development companies, so the decision to form strategic partnerships with developers located outside of Japan serves as a new cornerstone of its strategy to create games targeted primarily at consumers in Europe and North America. Additionally, Square Enix Group's foray into the real-time strategy genre is a significant expansion of its product lineup, largely known for its leadership role in the genre of role-playing games.

"Gas Powered Games is an accomplished development house that has demonstrated its ability to successfully create and develop intellectual properties," said John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix and Square Enix, Inc.. "We are extremely excited to begin working with Gas Powered Games' talented personnel and see this strategic partnership as a significant step in our efforts to bring Square Enix titles to a broader global audience."

Creator of hit titles such as Dungeon Siege®, and Supreme Commander®, Gas Powered Games® was founded in 1998 by one of the game industry's most imaginative and dynamic visionaries Chris Taylor, who serves as chief executive officer. "It is truly a great honour to join forces with as renowned a developer and publisher as Square Enix, Inc." said Taylor: "Everyone at Gas Powered Games is thrilled about this collaboration, and the results will surely delight video game fans around the world.

Details on SUPREME COMMANDER 2 including gameplay features, platform(s) and release date will be available at a later time.

Demigod: Q1 2009

[Monday, November 10, 2008 at 23:31 CST by Pet0sh] [6 Comments]

Some of you more interested in Demigod likely know that it's been slated for release early next year. However, with so many overly optimistic dates set by GPG in past endeavors, it wouldn't be a surprise to see a delay. A recent article from 1up looks to make the release date pretty solid though, as it takes a look at Stardock's publishing and marketing strategy.
Is this a sign of good business in filling the market when no one's selling, or is it a mistake in filling the market when no one's buying?
And is one game every year indicative of too little time spent and games rushed out the door in quantity>quality?

Stardock to Develop Replacement for DRM

[Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 18:09 CDT by Pet0sh] [3 Comments]

Unhappy with the intrusive systems of DRM in place today, but still dependent on publisher support, Stardock is attempting to find a solution to placate both the consumer and the publisher. The Gamer's Bill of Rights was a good proposal, but its ideas have yet to been tested.

Interview here.

SupCom and FA on Impulse

[Monday, October 27, 2008 at 11:16 CDT by Col. Jessep] [5 Comments]

Stardock and THQ are planning to release SupCom and FA on Impulse, Stardocks online platform. The SupCom community might see a bunch of new players when that happens and I don't want to speculate how this is going to affect the online gaming client and patches. Notice how I said 'the online gaming client' and not GPGnet? Who knows maybe SupCom and FA will also work with the Impulse gaming client? To much to hope for? We will see. One thing is certain though: Stardock only sells the game via Impulse, the publisher of SupCom will still be THQ. At the moment it seems your old game key will not be transferable to Impulse (which is entirely THQ's fault of course).

Some information from Zoomba's post (Stardock employee):
Q: I bought [THQ Game] at retail. Can I put my [THQ Game] Serial Number into Impulse and download the game in case I lose my CD?
A: Sorry, but only THQ games sold through Impulse can be downloaded by Impulse. While we offer the option to publishers to use their retail keys with Impulse, none have taken us up on this yet.
Q: What about Forged Alliance?
A: The Impulse version of Forged Alliance will play nice with retail copies of Supreme Commander. (Not sure about digital copies from other sources, I'm going to try to test it with the D2D version this weekend)
Q: Can I get these THQ games in [Insert Country Here]?
A: Absolutely! The THQ Catalog will be available to all customers from any point on the globe. The only catch is that for certain markets there will be regional pricing (i.e. not a straight currency conversion). Those will be marked accordingly.
I guess the last sentence means that you probably have to pay a little extra if you are from Australia, Canada and Europe (also a courtesy of THQ, thank you so much).
