The primary objective for the Service Quick Reference Guide (QRG) is to increase customer satisfaction by providing accurate, timely, consistent, and cost effective Service information on Compaq's new and existing products.
Customers: The QRG is designed primarily for service technicians who maintain and configure Compaq products. Other target audiences are Authorized Service Providers and Resellers, ASEs, FSEs, ACSMs, RTSEs, FSRMs, Geos, and product divisions. Internal phone support, technical training, and case management also uses the QRG. Many of our partners, vendors, and associates use the QRG on a regular basis.
Service Information Provided: In general, the QRG contains spare part and assembly numbers for field replaceable items; applicable configuration (switch and jumper) settings; as well as memory upgrade information for Compaq Portable, Desktop, Server, Communication, and Workstation hardware. Except for ROM information, software data is provided elsewhere.
The QRG focuses on the major replaceable items such as system boards, memory modules, mass storage devices, processors, controllers, modems, cables, power supplies, and similar items. Primarily due to space limitations, the QRG does not generally include sheet metal, plastics, screws, or other small, miscellaneous items.
Additional information includes configuration codes, cross-reference information on hard drives and monitors, configuration charts, processor upgrade reference, and more.
Format/Layout: Portables, Commercial Desktops & Minitowers, Presario Products, Servers, Expansion Systems, Communication Products, Workstations, and Appendices define the major chapters in the QRG. Each product within those chapters has its own section and the sections are listed in alpha/numeric order. The small size of the guide allows a large amount of condensed information to be easily carried on site by service technicians. As Compaq expands its product base, the QRG will likewise expand with new sections covering the new products.
