hi,

I was going through the new DECDirect catalog and found some interesting
price schemes.

1) Alphastation 200/4-233 - part # PB430-AA/KPQ = $14,495.00 (list)
(32M RAM, 1.05G HD, no monitor)

Some of the features:
   (233MHz cpu, 132MB/s max i/o's, Linpack 1000x1000 = 138.0)

2) DEC 3000/600 - part # PE421-AC/KPQ = $19,741 (list)
   (32M RAM, 426M HD, 16" color monitor)

Some of the features:
   (175MHz cpu, 100MB/s max i/o's, Linpack 1000x1000 = 129.7.0)

If you go through the spec's listed by DEC on page 13 of the catalog,
alphastation has much better numbers then 3000/600. Am I missing something
here. Even if we take into account the difference of monitor (say about $1000)
still 3000/600 is $4000 more than 200-4/233.

Both machines will run OSF/1.

Any Idea's as to why a DEC 3000/600 would be a better choice over 200/4-233.
I would like to hear specially from DEC people.

Thanks
Rakesh
