SOLVED: nfs mounts from alien machines

G'day everyone.

I posted a few days about my woes with nfs mounting from non OSF/1
machines. Well, the answer was so simple and so stupid I could kill myself,
but I am happy to say none of the following people who sent suggestions
thought of it either :-) (doesn't that make you feel really good guys? :-)
)

Anyway, before I reveal all, I'd like to thank:

for their suggestions and comments.

However the answer came from, where else but that most useful series of
books but the O'Reilly & Associates series of books. In this case the
"Managing NFS and NIS" book by Hal Stern.

My problem (wait for it) was...

I was in too many groups on the client machine !

Apparently during RPC Authentication not only is the UID and hostname etc
sent to the server, but also the gid's of all the groups you are in. And
there is a maximum of 8 or 16 allowed. I was in 20 or so groups (!) and
so it was overflowing the buffers (or whatever) and so the whole thing
barfed. As soon as I deleted a few group entries, re-logged in and mounted
there was no problem.

So there you all go :-)
