Original Question:
Hi, I've just taken delivery of an RZ29. I want to add this to a Digital
Unix system running V2.0. Checking /sys/data/cam_data.c leads me to
believe I won't be able to do this. I don't wish to upgrade to Digital
Unix V3.2 yet.
Can I simply add the necessary information for the RZ29? If so can someone
please supply it?
Summary:
It seems that there is no need to worry about the fact that there is no
information for this disk in either /sys/data/cam_data.c or /etc/disktab
files. All one needs to do is:
1) create the(generic SCSI disk) device files(cd /dev;./MAKEDEV rz??)
2) use disklabel to label the disk
disklabel -wr rz?? rz29
disklabel will get the geometry information it needs from the drive.
3) Paul E. Rockwell advised:
What enclosure are you putting the RZ29 in? If it's not a new BA350, you
will need to get a update kit for the shelf. The RZ29's (as 7200 rpm drives)
run really hot, and the fans in the original BA350 pedestal shelf won't push
enough cooling air into the enclosure. There's an upgrade kit with
stronger fans and foam air dams to force better cooling in the shelf.
You'll have cooling problems without it.
