Hi:

I got a seagate Elite 9 (9GB) disk drive and attached it to an Alphastation
4/166 running Digital Unix 3.2C. I did the following:

/dev/MAKEDEV rz1
disklabel -wr rz1 RZxx

When I look at the disklabel, it doesn't match the manufacturer's specs.
Here's what disklabel says and any differences are mentioned.

disklabel -r rz1
# /dev/rrz1a:
type: SCSI
disk: RZxx
label:
flags: dynamic_geometry
bytes/sector: 512
sectors/track: 133
tracks/cylinder: 27
sectors/cylinder: 3591
cylinders: 4926 Seagate says 4925
sectors/unit: 17755614
rpm: 3600 Seagate says 5400
interleave: 1
trackskew: 0
cylinderskew: 0
headswitch: 0 # milliseconds
track-to-track seek: 0 # milliseconds
drivedata: 0

8 partitions:
# size offset fstype [fsize bsize cpg]
  a: 131072 0 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 0 - 36*)
  b: 262144 131072 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 36*- 109*)
  c: 17755614 0 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 0 - 4944*)
  d: 0 0 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 0 - -1)
  e: 0 0 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 0 - -1)
  f: 0 0 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 0 - -1)
  g: 17362398 393216 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 109*- 4944*)
  h: 0 0 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 0 - -1)

It did get the size right. So here are my questions:

1. Why is disklabel different than the manufacturer's specs?
2. Who is right?
3. Do I care if it's wrong?
4. How do I fix it?
