Dear Managers,
The information in my original post was correct. For correct changes from
BST to GST for the United Kingdom and Ireland modify
/etc/zoneinfo/sources/europe and change
# Current rules
Rule GB-Eire 1981 max - Mar lastSun 1:00s 1:00 BST
Rule GB-Eire 1972 max - Oct Sun>=23 1:00s 0 GMT
to
Rule GB-Eire 1996 max - Mar lastSun 1:00s 1:00 BST
Rule GB-Eire 1995 only - Oct 22 1:00s 0 GMT
Rule GB-Eire 1996 max - Oct lastSun 1:00s 0 GMT
or something similar, then update using zic, e.g.
# zic -l GB-Eire /etc/zoneinfo/sources/europe
This can be checked with zdump
# zdump -v GB-Eire
This also works for DECstations running Ultrix, and all my hosts showed the
correct time when I got to work this morning. This will all be corrected
in future releases of Digital Unix.
The fix can be applied retroactively, but your clocks will change right away.
Ray Bellis pointed out that you don't have to worry about changing all your
NFS hosts timezones as dates are stored in UTC.
