Getting the tty to wrap???

New osf/1-DECunix sysadmin here. I'm desperatly trying to come up with
the incantation to get this stupid telnet session to wrap a line of text
over 80 characters. commands longer than 80 wrap fine. I've tried stty
cols 80 to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
