Firmware upgrade via bootp, Alphastation 400 4/233

The subject says it all; I've read the firmware relnotes, it just doesn't
work !. I've tried the following scenarios from SRM:

1. boot -protocols bootp
2. boot -file "/dir1/dir2/dir3/as400_v5_0.btp" -protocols bootp
3. boot -file "/dir1/dir2/dir3/as400_v5_0.btp"

3. above try erroneously to boot via MOP so I guess I have to specify the
'-protocols bootp' switch.
I KNOW that the tftp/bootp setup is correct (I've upgraded firmware/OS on
DEC3000's from the same server and subnet OK) so what is the correct
procedure ??
