NSR 3.1A says "device full" on a TLZ06

I'm running DU 3.2C on an AlphaServer 1000 4/200, and (try to) use
NetWorker V3.1A-06/14 to do my backups. I'm running the full version
(NAS license), not the SingleServer version.

CSC says there's a version 3.2 but they won't send it to me, and
they can't tell me if any problems that might affect my setup
are fixed... I guess we have to wait for the next LP CD's to find out...

I use a TLZ06 (revison 0491) as the tape device. It is configured
as /dev/nrmt0h, and recognized as a 4mm 4GB device.

Backups used to work okay, but suddenly things seem to have stopped
working. I've documented this extensively to Digital CSC here, but
they haven't been able to tell what's wrong. They've swapped the
TLZ06 device once already, and I think they're coming back to switch
the motherboard and/or other stuff very soon...

The tape is tz3 and I have disks on target 0, 1, 2 and 6, in addition
to the CD-ROM on 4, on the same bus. I'm using all devices on a single
controller, using the jumper cable. It is properly terminated, and the
disks work okay.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Backup seems to work for a long time (from 5 minutes to 2 hours), then
suddenly I get stuff like:

 Wed 10:36:29 /dev/nrmt0h labeled 4mm 4GB tape tlz06
Wed 10:36:38 /dev/nrmt0h is now write enabled
Wed 10:36:38 /dev/nrmt0h mount operation in progress
 Wed 10:36:54 /dev/nrmt0h mounted 4mm 4GB tape tlz06
Wed 10:37:08 savegroup info: starting Default (with 1 client)
 ...
Wed 12:00:51 donald.admintec.no:/ done saving to pool 'Default' (tlz06) 25 MB
Wed 13:52:44 media warning: /dev/nrmt0h writing: No space left on device, at
 Wed 13:52:44 media notice: 4mm 4GB tape tlz06 on /dev/nrmt0h is full
Wed 13:52:44 media notice: 4mm 4GB tape tlz06 used 1689 MB of 4000 MB capacit
Wed 13:54:11 media info: suggest mounting 03.01.96 for backup to pool 'Defaul

This is a NEW tape (90m). I've also tried using tar to
overwrite "old" tapes, then relabel them. I've made sure that the
media is "recyclable" and "empty", and *not* appendable, when I've
used old tapes. I've used cleaning tapes.

tar seems to work mostly okay, I'm doing experiments with tar, vdump
etc now. Is there any reason why tar and vdump might work when
NSR doesn't?

uerf doesn't report any errors on the tape drive today (even though
I got the device full *today* as well), but the last days
I've seen stuff like:

ctape_move_tape / Hard Error Detected / Active CCB at time of error
ctape_orphan_done / ...

Thanks!
