Rewriting Disk Labels

Hello,
I need to rewrite the label for ADVfs rz0a partition (shrink it,
actually) but when I try to edit and save it with the disklabel it says
that it cannot adjust size of an open partition. Even booting to
single-user mode or to stand-alone mode does not change anything. The
problem is that rz0a partition size in disklabel -r rz0 is shown larger
than it really is. Because of that, swap partitin in rz0b is not starting
thinking that rz0a owerwrites it. The problem comes from me trying to
increase space on root partition ( we desperately need it). It allowed me
to increase the space by decreasing same size from another partiotion,
but it didn't work. So now I can't put it back to the size it was (after
putting the other partition to its original size).
As a related question, how can I increase space on root partition
without reinstalling the OS? Addvol does not work on root domain,
disklabel didn't work either. We have a free 400Mb partition

Thank You...
