Swap problems

Hello,
we have a program that uses a lot of memory. It has crashed a
few times, and the last time I noticed that it was using around 400 Megs
of virtual space (using ps g -O vsz).

Also, a swapon -s gives the following output:

Swap partition /dev/rz0h (default swap):
    Allocated space: 111881 pages (874MB)
    In-use space: 3999 pages ( 3%)
    Free space: 107882 pages ( 96%)

Swap partition /dev/rz0b:
    Allocated space: 25088 pages (196MB)
    In-use space: 3877 pages ( 15%)
    Free space: 21211 pages ( 84%)

Total swap allocation:
    Allocated space: 136969 pages (1070MB)
    Reserved space: 12138 pages ( 8%)
    In-use space: 7876 pages ( 5%)
    Available space: 124831 pages ( 91%)

The error message I got on the crash was:
May 15 15:29:56 cuhep vmunix: Unable to obtain requested swap space

But as the swapon command showed, there was plenty of space! (I was able
to get these values because it is possible to tell the program is going
to crash by a very high disk activity... praise loud disks!).

Oh... we have an AlphaStation 250 4/266 with 128 Megs of physical
memory.

TIA,
will summarize.

Mariano.
