A Hopefully Helpful Hint

Someone earlier asked about vacation and e-mail. Not to pick on that person,
but there is a very useful, but not-too-well-known (in my experience anyway)
utility on many unix boxes, and definitely on our DU Alphas. It's a tool
called "apropos". The man page title is:

apropos - Locates reference pages by keyword

If you aren't sure how to look for something try typing (for example):

> apropos vacation

It will give you man pages which have the specified keyword in them.

Of course, much like searching the Web with Altavista, you may get
a bazillion references if you use a common word. Still, if you are not
familiar with apropos, try it, and add it to you bag o' trick.

We now return you to your dull and mundane day, which is already in progress...

-ps- I think the main difficulty with using apropos is remembering how
     to spell it!
