The original question was how to make a multihomed alphaserver.

The right answer is:

NETDEV_1="tu0:1" (if NETDEV_0=tu0)
IFCONFIG_0="a.b.c.d netmask 255.255.0.0"
IFCONFIG_1="a.b.c.e netmask 255.255.0.0"

in rc.config
