Dunix 3.2C and Sybase 10

Hi managers,

we have an Alpha 2100, Dunix 3.2C and want to implement a Sybase 10
server. My question is the following:
Sybase recommends raw partitions only. The reason they give is the
buffering of the OS. From the Sybase installation manual:

Avoid putting production servers on
operating system files.
Do no place the master device of a production SQL server on
an operating system file. I/O to operating system files is
buffered, so your data may not be recoverable in the event
of a system crash or other failure.

Since files are much easier to manage I would like to put everything
onto a filesystem. As far as I understand, the mount option 'sync'
ensures that all data is written to disk immediately.

So: Does anybody have any experience with a Sybase 10 system on
filesystems and NOT on raw devices? Did it work out for you? Or why
did you use raw partitions?

I will summarize
TIA

Juergen
