The Question was:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello!
I've got a DEC Alpha 3000/300Lx and am interested in upgrading the
memory for it. According to the folks I spoke with a DEC it costs about
$2000.00 to buy 32 meg of ram for the board. The owners guide for the
alpha states that the board takes SIMMS (with the chips on both sides of
the board) . My question is, can I just buy a certain brand of SIMMS
(much cheaper) or is there something special about the DEC ram that I need ?

Thanks. Responses will be summarized.

Sorry if I left anyone out, as you can tell I got *a lot* of
responses :) .
My ram costs will be a bit lower...and I know a bit more about how
the RAM in an Alpha works. Basically, most people recommended Western
Scientific, and Kingston as a cheaper source of qulity RAM . Also
mentioned was R-Squared, VisionTek, Cammington, and DataRam .
I called WS and Kingston, both are loads cheaper than DEC . As
for the chips being special, I got some notes from people that had used
regular SIMMS and some that told me that Alpha SIMMS are error correcting
so that not any kind will work.
Thanks!
