Dear Managers,
Thanks VERY much for your quick and helpful responses.
In particular I would like to thank Louis Bouchard:
(bouchard_l_at_decus.fr),
Ken Teh (teh_at_chinook.phy.anl.gov),
Hellebo Knut (knut.hellebo_at_nho.hydro.com) and
D. Bremner (bremner_at_cs.mcgill.ca).
Basically the solution was to boot from the install CD
and issue the command:
# disklabel -wr -t[ufs|advfs] <disk> <disktype> <primary-boot>
<secondary-boot>.
The primary-boot and secondary-boot placeholders are
files located in the /mdec directory. There is one for ufs and
for AdvFs.

        I know. T really should have RTFM'd.

Yours sincerely,
Robert Honore
