df & du disagree

I'm using DU 3.2C and everything is ADVFS. On some of my filesets (but not
all) du and df disagree on the amount of space that has been used. In the
case of /var, for instance, the difference is about 20mb. du shows less
used than df.

My first guess was simply that a process had a file open that had been
unlinked from the filesystem. This would produce the results observed. BUT
a reboot doesn't fix it and lsof can't find the file concerned.

I have multiple filesets in one of the domains involved and some of the
filesets are fine and some are not. eg var_domain#logs is ok but
var_domain#var is out by 20mb (so it's not a domain based problem, it would
seem).

Responses to me and I'll summarise.
