lpd daemon problem

Dear Managers:
I have a Alpha with OSF/1, I have problems with the lpd program. This
program or daemon can't start, but I find that the /dev/printer doesn't
exist. I suppose thata lpd can't create it, because the rc file remove
the socket /dev/printer.
Any body know how can I fixed or could any body tell me where can I find
a lpd daemon.
