SUMMARY: lpd daemon failing to create socket /dev/printer

Thanks for the replys. Seems that the problem was some garbage
characters in the /etc/printcap.

Sorry about the lpd.EXE, I move about between three operating systems
and occasionally conventions from one follow me to the other.

I ended up having to recreate the /etc/printcap file from scratch using
lprsetup. The /dev/printer is a socket created in IP by the
/usr/lbin/lpd daemon. With the garbage in the file this socket was not
being created and hence no printing to IP printers from the system.

After recreating /etc/printcap. Used "/sbin/init.d/lpd stop" to stop the
lpd daemon. Then "/sbin/init.d/lpd start" to restart it. Then checked
for the socket /dev/printer. This was then working.
