HP C1553A: Tape Change utility?

Dear Digital Unix managers!

We have a HP C1553A DDS-2 Autoloader (6 tapes) connected to
a Digital AlphaServer2100 (DU 3.2)

I tried to use the HP tape change utility mtx, but I failed :-(
mtx version 1.1 reports: "Unsupported Device." and version 2.0
dumps a core.

Is there another utility to change the tapes?
