>We are making daily backups on our Alphaservers 1000 and 2100, OSF 3.2,
>TLZ07, with a crontab procedure that uses :

>With 120m tapes, I got about 8Gb capacity as expected. This ran for
>several months without problems. One day the capacity dropped very close
>to 4Gb (no more compression ?). After the drive was replaced, it went
>back up to 8Gb. One month later both servers dropped to 4Gb. Replacing
>the drives made no difference this time. What else could be wrong ?
>(There are no entries about the tape in the errorlog).

It turned out that, contrary to what is in the documentation of the TLZ07,
the compression switch on the tape drive should be switched off. When the
new tape was installed, the factory default is on : compression disabled.

Regards and thanks for the help.
