Hello Managers,
I am preparing to upgrade an Alpha DEC 3000 running OSF (DU) 3.0.
This is what I am planning to do.
I currently have two disk drives in the Alpha, I am planning on adding an additional 4 Gig drive.
I also want to upgrade the OS to DU 4.0 but I cannot perform an upgrade installation straight from 3.0. So I have received the update CD ROMs (QL-MT4AE-7E) to update to DU 4.0. The installation manual says that I need to perform successive upgrades if my OS predates version 3.2C.
first question: Does this CD-Rom have what I need to perform the successive upgrades that the installation manual talks about?
Ok So if this CD-ROM does allow me to perform the successive upgrades that I need.
second question: Should I perform the upgrade first, and then add the new disk drive?
If I do not have what I need to do the successive upgrades then I will most likely need to perform the full installation.
Third question: If I perfom the full installation what should I be careful not to destroy?
I will of course have backups of the system, but I want to know what files should I be particularly interested in preserving? What do I do about user files? How do I add all the users back to the system? How do I make sure the users have the proper rights to their files?
Is doing a full installation not the way to go if I want to preserve the user files?
I know that this is a lot to ask of anyone who responds, but I will be most thankful.
Oh Yeah, I also received the Media Kit (QA-MT4AA-H8) that containds the Binaries and Documentation for upgrading.
thanks in advance..
