PROBLEM
hpux rrestore from DU3.2G TLZ06
I have a 4mm dat tape written on a DEC Alpha TLZ06, running
Digital UNIX 3.2G, which is an rdump from an HP-UX 9.05 9000/715.
The hp-ux rrestore command doesn't recognize the backup as a dump.
With dd I can access the contents of the backup. Is there a way
to decode the contents of the tape, to undo any network data
manipulation? The alternative is to have the bits coaxed
off a broken disk.
SOULTION
No solution. HP-UX rdump/rrestore is only supported to and from
HP UNIX machines. HP support found similar calls with the same
problem and no solution. To determine why this doesn't work,
I used dump on the HP to a local disk, and I was able to restore from
the disk dump file. The size of the root file system was 1091665920
bytes. I used dd to extract the root file system produced by using
the HP-UX rdump to DU 3.2C and the same root files system was
4307456 bytes. The broken disk is being rebuilt to recover the data.
