Basically the solution is upgrading from sendmail 5.6.7 to sendmail
8.8.5.
I got the following form Erik Persson <erik_at_lysator.liu.se> which
descripts the whole thing (many thanks erik!!).
What you like to accomplish is very hard with the DU standard
sendmail. This does not however mean that it is that difficult to
fix - provided that you do something similar to the following:
Get a fresh sendmail. The current release is sendmail-8.8.5. While
you're at it try getting the berkeley DB library (should be version
db.1.85 by now) - see to that you compile sendmail with the -NEWDB
option for berkeley DB.
With sendmail 8.8 you can easily do what you want by enabling the
'viirtusertable' and 'userdb' features. In addition to moer features
it is also good for security so keep up with the latest sendmail
versions.
It would be far to time consuming to describe the whole process in
detail, but there are some good READMEs in the sendmail documentation
about these things.
/Erik
I got further answers from
Carlos A M dos Santos <casantos_at_cpmet.ufpel.tche.br>
Paulo Gomes <paulog_at_dexel.co.za>

Many thanks to everybody.
