4.0B, 4D60T & CDE allocation errors (UPDATE)

Here's an update on my problems with the 4D60T board on our system.
Thanks to Dr. Tom Blinn and some jusicious reading of the release
notes for Open3D 4.2, I've made some changes to shared memory setup
using sysconfigdb. Unfortunately, this didn't fix the problem. I've
appended more information on the bottom:

John> We're running 4.0b (upgraded from 4.0a recently) on an AS
John> 500/400 with 384Mb of RAM, Open3D V4.2 (all subsets) and 4D60T
John> graphics installed. We've been having a problem where the user
John> keeps getting logged out randomly from his machine and the
John> screen goes back to the login prompt. He is using CDE as his
John> environment. What he's doing is running some of our in house
John> codes doing simulation work and displaying graphs of the status
John> of problem as it iterates.

John> Here's the graphics info from /var/adm/mesages:

John> Apr 9 09:15:26 lz vmunix: ingr_vga0 at pci0 slot 11
John> Apr 9 09:15:26 lz vmunix: ingr0 at pci0 slot 12

John> When I look in /var/dt/Xerrors after he gets logged out, I see this:

John> Adding depth 10
John> Screen 0 Cateyes Leopard Rev-A, 1280x1024, 128 bpp, texture None, TrueColor-24
John> shminit (255f, 48a, 0r)

John> shminit (253f, 48a, 19r)

John> The first section and the last section are the initialization of
John> the Xserver, the middle section is the error I'm getting. Has
John> anyone else seen this error and have a solution or a patch to
John> apply?

I've upped the default shm- variables as suggested by the release
notes for Open3D 4.2 to the following numbers:

    # sysconfigdb -l ipc vm

    ipc:
            shm-mni = 1024
            shm-seg = 256
            shm-max = 67108864

    vm:
            vm-mapentries = 1000000

Now when the Xserver crashes, I get the following error:

    Fatal server error:
    Failed to allocate tile pixmap

    Sun Apr 13 16:41:49 1997
error (pid 521): Server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly 1

My next try is to edit /var/X11/Xserver.conf to use only 102 bpp
entries, instead of the default 128. This should make some sort of
change.

If that doesn't work, I think I'll just rip out the Open3D software
completely and re-install it from scratch. Maybe I messed up when I
installed it after the 4.0b upgrade.

Thanks.
John
