Hi, folks.
Thanks for all the answers.
It can be boiled down to the following:
1) It is not possible to boot from LUNs other than 0, thus not
possible to install the operating system on LUN's other than
0.
2) It should be possible to use up to 4 different SCSI adresses
with the HSZ40, thus making up at least 4 LUN 0 devices.
-- My HSZ40 does not support that, only up to two which is
too few having three members.
3) It is altogether unsupported, says iwm_at_uvo.dec.com, YUCK!
The conclution is thus:
"The 'system disks' are an integrated part of the computer. If they
fail, the computer also fails."
We will of course offer our customers different options like "local
mirror of the system disks" and "local mirror of the system disks to
another controller", "...to another controller and another shelf" and
so forth. Less elegant but a usable alternative.
This is my conclution, comments are welcome.
