wu-ftp on du 4.0 beta 13

has anyone gotten wu-ftp beta 13 to run on du 4.0? I keep getting this
error when I run it:

Apr 17 11:53:39 josephus ftpd[1584]: FTP LOGIN REFUSED (ftp not in
/etc/passwd)
FROM localhost [127.0.0.1], anonymous

and it looks like getpw is the problem. Any help?
