newfs for LSM devices

Managers,

I understand that newfs is basing its defaults on a drives disklabel.
For a physical volume this works fine but with LSM logical volumes the
parameter that is passed on a newfs command is an "rz device" rz26 for
example. Is there more to this than just getting any number of
sectors/track, tracks/cylinder calculate super block backup mapping?
